Speech Therapy

  • Speech Therapy at CLL

The CLL Speech Therapy Department consists of dedicated and dynamic individuals who hold New Jersey State Department of Education certifications. Our Speech and Language Therapists are responsible for assessing, planning and implementing intervention programs according to the individual needs that is within their scope of practice.

Services Provided

  •           Speech-language therapy services are aimed to provide the highest level of service in individual, small group and integrated group sessions. The CLL speech department is committed to supporting all of CLL students’ communication needs in and out of the classroom. The Speech Department is directly involved in the implementation of the students’ academic, vocational and life skills training.

CLL’s speech therapists are also part of the team involved in the development of Individualized Educational Plans as well as the Behavioral Plans if needed. Additionally, each speech-language therapist works with the whole child study team to ensure that each student maximizes their potential as an independent communicator by utilizing a Total Communication Approach.

Our speech department has an in-house Augmentative-Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluator. When a referral is made, the evaluator collaborates with parents, the students speech therapists, teachers, classroom staff, occupational therapists and physical therapists to determine an appropriate alternative modality of communication to be implemented in all aspects of the students school day.

A yearly feeding clinic provides an opportunity for students with dysphagia or other feeding difficulties to be evaluated by a Feeding Specialist. Each therapist ensures that they work collaboratively with occupational therapists and the teachers to promote safety and provide assistive modifications and interventions during mealtimes.

The Speech Department supports parents, teachers, classroom staff, and other professionals by offering training and workshops in speech- language therapy programs, AAC and feeding techniques.
