Somerset Hills Superintendent Joins the Board of the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey

BERNARDSVILLE – September 2023 – A “Superintendent of the Year”Dr. Brotschul for New Jersey, Dr. Brian Brotschul will be using his vast expertise in education to provide guidance as the newest board member of the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey (ESCNJ). Dr. Brotschul, the new superintendent of the Somerset Hills School District in Bernardsville, joins leaders of other school districts in Central Jersey who comprise ESCNJ’s Board of Directors. Together, they provide direction for the largest specialized public school district in the state.

“I’m eager to contribute to ESCNJ and am deeply appreciative of the honor that the Board of Directors has bestowed upon me to work with the ESCNJ stakeholders,” Dr. Brotschul said. “The strong tradition at ESCNJ offers great opportunities to ensure students exceed their potential while all staff are supported in thoughtful and creative ways.”

Dr. Brotschul, named the 2022 “Superintendent of the Year” for Region III in New Jersey, began his career in education as a teacher of language arts. He has served in a variety of administrative roles including assistant principal, director, and principal at both the middle school and high school levels in North Brunswick, before becoming superintendent in Delran, a post held through last year.

Dr. Brotschul said he focuses his leadership on positively impacting staff and student achievement. His work as a leader is deeply embedded in the belief that community-driven schools result in connected stakeholders. The superintendent indicates that his work has increased academic achievement in the areas of language arts, math, and stakeholder engagement across diverse, robust, and engaged communities.

Dr. Brotschul holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston, SC, a Master of Arts degree from Kean University, and a Doctor of Education degree from Seton Hall University. He serves as adjunct faculty at Rutgers University and is an active member of several professional organizations.
